Talk Wild Trout Conference 2024

The Talk Wild Trout conference is on again in Mansfield this spring, brought to you by the Australian Trout Foundation (ATF) in partnership with us at the Victorian Fisheries Authority.

Join hundreds of other like-minded people who are passionate about our fantastic trout fisheries. You’ll learn lots to improve your fishing, make new contacts, and catch up with old friends, all at the same time! Best of all, attending the conference is free!

Why not make a weekend of it with mates and fish the High Country on the Sunday?

Where: Mansfield Performing Arts Centre

Time:  9am - 4pm

Cost: Free. Click here to register

Conference presentations include:

  • Keynote speaker Philip Weigall will explore trout fishing through its ups and downs, season to season, and how anglers can best adapt for more reliable fishing success. Philip’s a renowned flyfishing instructor, author and guide with more than 40 years’ experience on the water, much of it in Victoria.
  • Terry George from the Australian Trout Foundation (ATF) on having a go, learning from the past and planning for the future.
  • John Billing from Mending Casts will outline how they’re helping people recover from cancer by connecting with nature through fishing.
  • Karen Brooks, who captained Australia’s first ever Ladies Fly Fishing Team in Norway two years ago, about how we can all be more inclusive to boost female participation.
  • Matt Tripet from The Fly Program on how fishing and the great outdoors can help people’s mental health and recovery from tough times.
  • James Norney from Mountain Fly on how environmental restoration provides for healthy fisheries and restored wonderlands.
  • Shea Bloom on why women are flocking to fishing and how the Women in Recreational Fishing & Boating (WIRFAB) network is supporting them.
  • Taylor Hunt and Anthony Forster from the VFA on a decade of discovery. What have we learned from research and various projects on trout?
  • Andrew Briggs from the VFA on how we’re working with CMAs, anglers and the ATF to enhance stream fisheries.
  • Jarod Lyon from the Arthur Rylah Institute (DEECA) on co-managing trout fisheries with native species in a changing climate.
