Record 10 million fish stocked

In 2022, the VFA reached a massive milestone by stocking a record 10 million fish into Victoria’s lakes and rivers during the 2021/22 season. This is not just a state record, but a national fish stocking record that achieves a commitment set out by the State Government under Go Fishing Victoria (phase two).

The stockings were funded by recreational fishing licence fees and the State Government’s $35 million investment to get more people fishing, more often.

Of the 10 million fish stocked, around 1.9 million were salmonids such as rainbow and brown trout and chinook salmon. The remaining 8.1 million were native species such as Murray cod, golden, silver and estuary perch, along with Australian bass.
