Record 10 million fish stocked

A massive milestone has been reached with a record 10 million fish stocked into Victoria’s lakes and rivers in the 2021/22 season. This is not just a state record, but a national fish stocking record as well.

The stockings were funded by recreational fishing licence fees and the State Government’s $35 million investment to get more people fishing, more often.

Of the 10 million fish stocked, around 1.9 million were salmonids such as rainbow and brown trout and chinook salmon. The remaining 8.1 million were native species such as Murray cod, golden, silver and estuary perch, along with Australian bass.
