The path to stocking 10 million fish
A key component of the State Government’s plan to get more people fishing, more often, is to further increase fish stocking to 10 million by 2022.
That will involve growing more fish at our Snobs Creek fish hatchery, near Eildon, and buying more fish from private hatcheries here and interstate.
The new native fish hatchery may also contribute, but won’t be at maximum production capacity by 2022.
The journey towards 10 million will be staged and our plan is:
- 2019 – 6 million (stocked and delivered)
- 2020 – 6 million (stocked and delivered)
- 2021 – 8 million (stocked and delivered)
- 2022 – 10 million
These fish will include brown trout, rainbow trout, Chinook salmon, cheetah trout, brook trout, tiger trout along with native species like Murray cod, golden perch, Australian bass, silver perch, estuary perch, Macquarie perch and trout cod.
