Calder Fly Fishing AssociationFly Fishing Expo 2022 ($4,673)The Calder Fly Fishing Association held a Fly Fishing Expo open day in celebration of National Gone Fishing Day, aimed at promoting the sport of fly fishing. The event featured casting demonstrations, lessons, and a social BBQ. It was a great success, with many new members joining and getting out on the water to catch their own fish!
Kyneton Angling ClubThe Coliban Water Classic E Comp ($2,000)Kyneton Angling Club hosted the Coliban Water Classic E-Comp and family day, which included a BBQ and fishing lessons for juniors on presentation day. Despite the average weather, the event was a great success, bringing together people of all ages and experience levels to enjoy their local waterways.
Leopold Angling and Aquatic ClubPromotion of the Annual Snapper Competition ($550)Leopold Angling and Aquatic Club used this grant to print promotional material for their annual Bellarine Snapper Competition. Open to the whole community, the event was a major success, with 142 snapper entered—totaling 6488cm! It was a fantastic way to unite participants of all ages in both adult and junior categories.
Mending CastsReel Recovery Retreat for Men with Cancer ($4,900)Casting for Recovery is an internationally recognised program delivered by Melbourne based Mending Casts. This retreat provided a 2 and a half day fly fishing retreat for men with, or in recovery from cancer. This retreat gave these participants the opportunity for some time out from their medicals issues in a beautiful learning environment, spending time with people experiencing similar health or emotional issues.
Oxley Primary SchoolIntroduction to Fishing Event ($1,330)Oxley Primary School students in Years 4, 5, and 6 took part in a fantastic introductory fishing day. For many, it was their first time fishing. With support from Native Fish Australia, Daiwa, and Robbie Alexander, the event gave children the exciting experience of catching a fish and highlighted the benefits of spending time by the water.
Ramahyuck District Aboriginal CooperationRamahyuck Fishing Fun Day ($1,700)Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Cooperation hosted a community fishing day that included a social BBQ and a fishing competition for both adults and juniors. The day was a great success, bringing the community together through a shared love of fishing and time spent by the water.
Rhyll-Phillip Island Angling ClubPromoting Benefits of Recreational Fishing ($3,465)The Rhyll-Phillip Island Angling Club (RPIAC) held an opening day coinciding with the reopening of the Rhyll Boat Ramp. RPIAC volunteers assisted with providing catering for the event, and engaged with local businesses and the community to provide a boating and fishing festival for locals and visitors to the area, promoting the benefits of recreational fishing and boating, and the social benefits of angling clubs.
Western Port Angling ClubInstallation of HDPE cutting boards at Hastings boat ramp fish cleaning tables ($1,911)Fish cleaning station upgrades were funded to improve the stainless steel tabletops that were slippery and damaging filleting knives. The grant enabled the installation of sealed HDPE boards and upgraded water hoses, significantly improving hygiene and usability for anglers.
Native Fish AustraliaThe 2023 Ovens River Challenge ($2,850)Native Fish Australia hosted the 2023 Ovens River Challenge—a fishing and social event for anglers passionate about native and trout fisheries and the health of our waterways. The public event brought together like-minded individuals to discuss future plans for our fisheries, and also contributes to citizen science, with participants recording data on all fish caught to help assess local fish populations.
Warragul Angling ClubEducation Night ($1,220)The Warragul Angling Club held a captivating information night, with guest speaker Peter Ferguson speaking at length in relation to both Port Welshpool and Western Port Bay from a fishing and safety perspective. Over 75 attendees from both the angling club and the general public benefitted from Peter's shared knowledge and tips!
