Goulburn Valley Congolese Association | Promoting responsible fishing practices within the GVCA ($3,887) | The Goulburn Valley Congolese Association ran a family fishing event aimed at promoting responsible recreational fishing practices within the Congolese community in the Goulburn Valley. The event included a workshop and fishing activities lead by Fisheries Officer Natashar Wills, who also distributed Swahili and French fishing education material provided by the VFA. |
Victoria Chinese Angling Society | Family Carp Fishing Day ($4,000) | The Victoria Chinese Angling Society held a family carp fishing day in Sale, providing a day full of fun, food and outdoor fishing activities for all ages. The day received great feedback from the men and women who attended the event, and also resulted in many carp being removed from the waterway! |
VRFish | Burnanga Women's Fishing Day ($1,955) | VRFish assisted the Burnanga Indigenous Fishing Club to hold a recreational fishing day at the Arcadia Native Fish Hatchery Visitor Centre and fish-out pond. The event combined indigenous cultural fishing learning with modern recreational fishing. The event involved female indigenous elders and emerging leaders, and was a gathering of all the community in celebration of recreational fishing and culture. |
Nathalia Angling Club | Graeme Bernhardt Memorial Come and Try Fishing Day ($5,000) | The Nathalia Angling Club held a very successful annual Come and Try Fishing Day. Over 450 members of the public attended, including over 150 children, as well as many parents, grandparents, club members and spectators. The event was of great benefit to the local community and promoted recreational fishing to both adults and the younger generation. |
Mending Casts | Casting for Recovery retreat for women with breast cancer ($5,000) | Casting for Recovery is an internationally recognised program delivered by Melbourne based Mending Casts. This retreat provided a 2 and a half day fly fishing retreat for women with, or in recovery from, breast cancer. This retreat gave these participants the opportunity for some time out from their medicals issues in a beautiful learning environment, spending time with people experiencing similar health or emotional issues. |
Leopold Angling and Aquatic Club | Angling Skills Enhancement ($3,894) | The Leopold Angling and Aquatic Angling Club purchased a fishing simulator and TV for use at club and community events, such as the Portarlington Gone Fishing Day, as well as hosting the Women in Recreational Fishing Organisation at their club rooms. The equipment provides great learning and development opportunities for children, while boosting interest in recreational fishing. |
Kyabram Anglers Club | Come Try Fishing Kyabram ($4,000) | The Kyabram Angling Club held a successful Come Try Fishing Day which attracted 78 children under the age of 16. Many were complete beginners, with little or no prior fishing experience. Volunteers assisted participants with gear, baiting hooks and landing fish, and the event provided opportunities for older members of the club to engage and share their knowledge. The day was a true community effort with around 200 people enjoying the memorable experience. |
Projex J Ltd | Jamerson Ross Event ($4,932) | Projex J held an event on Go Fishing Day which introduced over 60 adolescents grieving a loss of a loved one, or who had experienced the loss of a friend or family member as a result of suicide, to the benefits of fishing. Fishcare Victoria and the Metropolitan Anglers Association assisted with the fishing activities which were held on the Mornington Pier. |
Fishcare | Transport for Ballarat Schools ($2,720) | This grant funded bus transport for 78 students from three disadvantaged schools to participate in a recreational fishing experience in the Ballarat region. All students were provided with practical lessons in fishing skills before their trip to the waters edge. Fish were caught on every trip, leaving the students with valuable memories and a new understanding of responsible fishing practices. |
The Australian Trout Foundation | Livingstone Creek Restoration ($5,000) | The ATF and other volunteer groups provided volunteer labour at the request of the North East Catchment Management Authority, to plant 40,000 plants along the Livingstone Creek near Omeo as part of a million dollar restoration project. The grant helped fund the accommodation and travel expenses for ATF volunteers involved in this project, which will benefit the recovery of the endangered Macquarie perch as well as improving co-habitation for trout along the length of the creek. |
