Mid-Goulburn fish habitat project

Nearly 100 large snags have been added to a six-kilometre stretch of the Goulburn River near Mangalore, thanks to a Recreational Fishing Grant.

A grant of $21,500 was used by the Goulburn Broken Catchement Management Authority to build on existing native fish habitat in the popular stretch of the river.

The project was also supported by Native Fish Australia and VRFish.

The snags benefit native fish by providing increased shelter and food, and in turn, improve outcomes for recreational fishers as well.

The project work was carried out on the Goulburn between the Hume Highway Bridge and Hughes Creek confluence, near Mangalore.

It was in addition to previous habitat improvements which were also funded by recreational fishing licence fees.
