Your fees at work 2014-15
Every year the Recreational Fishing Licence (RFL) Trust Account allocates the fees you pay for a fishing licence to projects that directly improve recreational fishing in Victoria.
Large grants program
Through the 2014/15 round of the Recreational Fishing Grants Program - Large Grants Program, $1,006,899.56 will be allocated to the following 17 projects.
Northern ($389,224)
$100,000 over three years to implement better practice Murray cod fishery management.
$79,320 over one year for an 'Angling For All Abilities' project in Horsham.
$67,477 over one year to increase fish habitat in the Pyramid Creek.
$52,611 over one year to install a recreational fishing platform on the Wimmera River at the Dimboola Recreation Reserve.
$46,870 over one year to install a recreational fishing platform on the Wimmera River at Jeparit.
$24,946 over one year to develop a strategy to rebuild the trout fishery at Barkers Creek Reservoir, Harcourt.
$18,000 over one year for a re-snagging project in Tchum Lake.
South West ($187,547.06)
$86,400 over three years to gain a better understanding the stock structures, biology and population status of mulloway in Victoria.
$46,877.50 over one year for the installation of a fishing platform on the Aire River.
$30,713.82 over one year for the installation of a fishing platform on the Gellibrand River at Princetown.
$23,555.74 over one year for the installation of a fishing platform at the junction of the Gellibrand River and Latrobe Creek near Princetown.
Gippsland ($209,471)
$71,740 over one year to construct a fully accessible fishing platform in the bottom lake at Lake Tyers.
$71,565 over three years to assess the sustainability of Venus Bay's recreational and commercial pipi harvest
$66,166 over two years to conduct a river blackfish translocation pilot study.
State-wide ($220,657.50)
$147,907.50 over two years to increase knowledge of Victoria's growing recreational yellowtail kingfish fishery.
$50,000 over three years to develop a 'Cool Tools to Learn the Rules' fisheries related educational package.
$22,750 for the Young Future Leaders - Recreational Fisher Development Program 2015.
Commissioning grants program
The following project will be funded through the the 2014/15 round of the Recreational Fishing Grants Program - Commissioning Grants Program.
Communication and Compliance Products
The aim of this project is to continue the range of products that assist recreational fishers to understand and comply with fishing rules, without having to refer to legislative documents that are often difficult to comprehend.
The cost of this project is $171,347.19, whereby Fisheries Victoria would produce and distribute the following products to recreational anglers:
- 200,000 copies of the 2016 Victorian Recreational Fishing Guide;
- 140,000 fish length ruler stickers;
- 20,000 'Know your limits' pocket cards, in four different languages;
- 10,000 abalone, rock lobster and spiny crayfish measures in four different languages;
- 4,000 abalone pocket cards;
- 1,000 Murray cod length/weight rulers 500 abalone dive tags, and 400 metal fish length rulers (with 200 to be installed at freshwater locations).
Other RFL trust account expenditure
During 2014/15, RFL revenue will also fund:
- Recreational fisheries field services (state-wide);
- The purchase and liberation of native and salmonid fish, made in consideration of, and to complement the planned annual stocking program conducted by Fisheries Victoria; Recreational Fishing Grants Program - Small Grants Program;
- The administration of the RFL and the Grants Programs;
- VRFish; Fishcare Victoria Inc.;
- RFL sales commissions; and
- RFL and RFGP-related community information.
A report is tabled in Parliament in October each year concerning all RFL Trust Account revenue and expenditure. The Recreational Fishing Licence Trust Account 2014/15 Report is available for revenue spent in 2014/15 and previous years.
