Marma Lake drought relief event fun for all

15 March 2016

Farmers, residents and their families are being invited to take a break from work and head to Murtoa's Marma Lake for some free activities including a barbecue, live music and kids entertainment next Friday, March 18.

The community event will include fish stocking – that will see around 1000 golden perch or yellowbelly released into the lake – a rock climbing wall, live music, face painting for the kids, a photo booth and jumping castle, as well as a free barbecue and soft drinks as part of the Look Over the Farm Gate program. This event is also supported by Yarriambiack Shire, Wimmera CMA and National Landcare Program, Fisheries Victoria, Agriculture Victoria and the Murtoa Angling Club.

The event will provide angling opportunities for years to come, with youngsters given the chance on the day to learn how to fish.

Fisheries Victoria Officers will be on hand to show people the fine art of baiting a hook and casting a line.

The Look Over the Farm Gate campaign is a Victorian Government funded initiative, led by the Victorian Farmers Federation in partnership with the Country Fire Authority, Country Womens Association, the Royal Flying Doctors Service Victoria, the Wimmera CMA, the National Landcare Programme, Fisheries Victoria, The National Centre for Farmer Health, Yarriambiack Shire Council and the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources.

At the event, farmers will have the chance to chat to a range of service providers on hand to talk about finance, livestock, water, cropping and health.

Meanwhile the kids can spend the afternoon learning to cast a line, playing on the  jumping castle or getting their photo taken at the special photo booth. Everyone will be able to get their teeth into some free barbecue food and soft drink.

The event, on 18 March, runs from 4pm to 8pm and will be held at Marma Lake, Murtoa. Everyone is welcome.
