- Boat trip
- Involves a single boat journey, generally with multiple anglers on board. In this study, we assume one boat trip per boat per day for SBT fishing.
- Angler fishing day
- Involves an individual angler fishing on a particular day. In the case of SBT fishing, anglers are assumed to undertake one boat trip per angler fishing day.
- Trip/visit to Portland
- Travelling to Portland (typically from the place of residence) with the purpose of undertaking one or more boat trips once there. Anglers travelling to Portland may come for the day (day visitors) or stay overnight (overnight visitors who spend one or more angler fishing days in Portland/ go on multiple boat trips).
- Fishing-related variable costs
- Fishing-related variable costs are incurred on a per-trip basis and include boat fuel for anglers on private boats or boat charter fees for anglers on charter boats. It also includes tackle and bait or other gear purchased specifically for the trip.
- Trip-related variable costs
- Trip-related variable costs are incurred on a per-trip basis and include fuel for motor vehicle transport, accommodation and food and drinks (from restaurants, hotels, clubs, takeaway outlets or shop/supermarket).
- Fishing-related fixed costs
- Fishing-related fixed costs are incurred on an annual basis and include fishing licence, club membership, fishing gear and costs associated with a private boat and/or trailer (such as depreciation, maintenance, registration, insurance, storage and boat mooring).
