Lake Hamilton now stocked with more trout
12 May 2016
Fisheries Victoria this week released thousands of rainbow and brown trout into Lake Hamilton to provide more fishing opportunities for local anglers.
Fisheries Victoria Senior Fisheries Officer Charlie Cooper said 2,000 brown trout and 3,000 rainbow trout were released.
"The fish are approximately one year old and previously at Lake Hamilton with the right conditions we have seen them grow very quickly and provide good fishing for the next 12 months.
Mr Cooper said the trout stockings complement trial releases of estuary perch into Lake Hamilton, with 14,000 estuary perch fingerlings released there since 2013.
"Lake Hamilton has been stocked with trout for many years so there are already catchable size trout in there available to anglers throughout the year."
Fish stocking is funded by recreational fishing licence fees and the State Government.
