Have your say on the management of the Point Lillias Aquaculture Fisheries Reserve

Public consultation is now underway on the draft Point Lillias Aquaculture Fisheries Reserve Management Plan.

Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) CEO, Travis Dowling, said the draft plan establishes a framework for an environmentally sustainable and economically viable aquaculture industry at the Point Lillias Aquaculture Fisheries Reserve, located on the north-western shore of Port Phillip Bay.

The Point Lillias Aquaculture Fisheries Reserve is one of twelve public-land sites recognised by the Victorian government as areas suitable for aquaculture production in Victoria.

The aquaculture industry in Victoria is growing steadily to meet the demand for fresh, locally-produced seafood.  Aquaculture in this State currently produces finfish such as barramundi, trout and Murray cod as well as abalone, mussels, scallops, eels and yabbies.

Aquaculture at the Point Lillias Aquaculture Fisheries Reserve will contribute to the demand for seafood in a way that recognises and respects the important cultural heritage of the Point Lillias site and doesn’t compromise the environment.

Mr Dowling said this was Victoria's first Management Plan for the Point Lillias Aquaculture Fisheries Reserve.

The draft plan is available online at www.vfa.vic.gov.au/ptlilliasplan and submissions must be received by 30 October 2026.
