Community fishing clubs catch new grant funding
08 April 2024
More fishing clubs across Victoria are getting a helping hand to upgrade facilities, boost their membership and encourage the next generation of recreational fishers, with new grants backing community-based clubs thanks to the Victorian Government.
Minister for Outdoor Recreation Steve Dimopoulos today announced 12 grants awarded to local clubs through the Labor Government’s Stronger Fishing Club Grants, made possible through the reinvestment of fishing licence fees.
The program will support clubs with grants of up to $10,000, with recipients including the Omeo Angling Club which will benefit from new roofing, clubroom windows and a mobile signal booster and eftpos system so the club can thrive for generations to come.
Chiltern’s Black Dog Creek Fish Club will create a new community fishing fun day to share recreational fishing tips while upgrading the club’s BBQ area.
Recreational fishing club members at the Shepparton-based Goulburn Murray Fly Fishers will benefit from first aid training, with a new defibrillator and satellite tracking device ensuring safer club fishing trips for years to come.
From the Bendigo and District Fly Fishers and Tatong Anglers Group to the Didyabringyarodalong Angling Club and Bairnsdale Fly Fishers, the grants will ensure more fishing clubs across Victoria have the facilities and support they need to succeed.
The program is part of the Government’s $96 million investment to improve fishing, boating, piers and aquaculture for communities across the state.
