Better boating access for Swan Hill anglers

Freshwater anglers wetting a line in the Murray River for golden perch and Murray cod can now launch their vessels more easily thanks to a new boat ramp at Pental Island.

Victorian Fisheries Authority CEO Travis Dowling said the site at the end of Brooks Lane has been used as a boat launching point for more than 20 years, but uneven surfaces and ruts had made launching quite challenging, especially in wet conditions.

"That's why the Donald Angling Club seized the opportunity and obtained a $37,000 grant from the State Government's Target One Million plan, which is investing a record $46 million to get more people fishing, more often," said Mr Dowling.

"We know tens of thousands of Victorians fish in the Murray River every year so it makes sense to invest in better boat ramps like this one."

"Congratulations to the Donald Angling Club for taking action to improve freshwater fishing in their patch for members and the broader public. "

"Target One Million has delivered huge benefits for Victorian fishers over recent years including record fish stocking of six million, saving Lake Toolondo's iconic trout fishery, helping angling clubs attract new members and bringing an end to commercial net fishing in Port Phillip Bay."

"Thanks to the Andrews Government Target One Million plan, the new boat ramp at Pental Island will be a great incentive for more people to take their families fishing, more often."
