Get your kids fishing in Horsham this March
18 February 2019
Families looking for fun on the March long weekend need look no further, thanks to the return of VicFishKids in 2019 with a free event on the Wimmera River at Horsham on 9 March.
Fun and free events like VicFishKids help get more youngsters active outdoors and are just one part of the State Government’s Target One Million plan.
Kids who are curious about fishing can give it a go in a safe, supportive and fun environment with the help of experts who know lots about wetting a line in Victoria.
Everything is provided so it’s simple for families to participate – just turn up at Sawyer Park between 9am and 4pm and get involved in a fishing clinic.
The Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) will be giving away 200 rod and reel outfits to encourage kids to keep practicing with family and friends when they get home.
Fishing celebrity and television host of Fishing Edge Lee Rayner will be on hand to inspire young and old with expert tips, entertaining tales and to pose for selfies.
Local angling club volunteers and Fisheries staff will be leading the series of free introductory fishing clinics in which youngsters can learn how to cast, tie knots and what to do with a fish when they catch one.
Golden perch fingerlings will be released on the day too.
VicFishKids events have something for everyone including a jumping castle, face painting, kids’ activities area and a photo booth to immortalise that fish of a lifetime.
Junior anglers and parents are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear if they’re keen to cast a line before and after the clinics.
