Victorian Shellfish Quality Assurance
The Victorian shellfish quality assurance program is the Victorian implementation of the Australian Shellfish Quality Assurance Program (ASQAP) requirements of the Food Standards Code.
The Victorian shellfish quality assurance program provides for the active monitoring of shellfish harvesting areas (growing waters). Harvesting areas compliant with the ASQAP based Export Standard may be accredited for the harvest of product for export.
Holders of a valid Aquaculture (Crown Land - Bivalve Shellfish) licence may grow bivalve shellfish for the purpose of human consumption. To sell product for human consumption the licence holders must also be licensed by PrimeSafe under the Seafood Safety Act 2003.
