Unaffiliated VRFish member (with letters of support from CVFF, VRFish, VFFC and tackle shop owner) wants to reinstate trout stocking in Barwon River-3,000 brown trout.

Not Supported

Support originally withheld at Vic Fish Stock meeting pending further investigation. Previous stockings ceased due to low return to anglers-—thought to be related to habitat-—and not supported due to presence of threatened species (2004 CONS document). Contemporary information indicates habitat still not suitable. Corrangamite Catchment Management Authority indicated general river health since 2004 has not improved and consistent algal bloom periods during summer have persisted throughout this period. Flow averages have been consistent over this period but are dramatically reduced compared to historic flow averages. Corangamite CMA also report threatened fish species still present in stream.
