Appendix 3

Goulburn-Broken Fishery Management Plan 2011

The Department of Primary Industries annually stocks approximately one million salmonid and native fish into public waters throughout Victoria for the purposes of creating, maintaining and or enhancing recreational fisheries. Fish stocking is conducted in accordance with Fisheries Victoria's Fish Stocking for Recreational Purposes policy (Department of Primary Industries 2008a).

Stocking plans are developed through the annual Vic Fish Stock consultative process (Department of Primary Industries 2010f). Waters to be stocked, their priority, species, number and size of fish and when they will be stocked are determined using this annual process. Annual Vic Fish Stock (formerly CONS) reports are available at the Department of Primary Industries website, www.dpi.vic.gov.au/fishing.

The following tables summarise the approximate number of trout and native fish stocked in the Goulburn-Broken region between 2006 and 2010.

The actual numbers of fish stocked into waterways may vary from the numbers published in annual Vic Fish Stock (formerly CONS) reports due to a range of factors including the suitability of the receiving waters (e.g. water quality, water levels), infrastructure maintenance, decisions by waterway managers and the availability of fish.
