Statewide Recreational Fishing Roundtable - Chair

The Statewide Recreational Fishing Roundtable (SRFR) provides a forum for the exchange of information and specialized input about recreational fishing which will assist the Victorian Fisheries Authority in the management of Victorian recreational fishing. In order to do so, the Victorian Fisheries Authority ensures that the Statewide Recreational Fishing Roundtable Forum is kept informed about any strategic matters arising through the other fisheries consultation processes and seek advice from the Forum as necessary. The SRFR also provides an opportunity for constructive interactions between leaders in the recreational fishing sector.

The Chairperson’s role requires an independent person with the requisite people management skills to act in an impartial way to seek to build relationships and consensus outcomes amongst all Forum participants.

Position Details

Position Title: Chairperson

Remuneration: $500 per sitting day up to 4 meetings per year, and a further $250 for work performed as preparation for each meeting eg agendas, invitations, guest speakers, RSVPs, membership etc, and $250 for work performed as follow up to each meeting. Payment of travel, accommodation and expenses with prior approval of the CEO will be considered.

Position Reports To: CEO, Victorian Fisheries Authority

The VFA has an expectation that all people undertake their duties and responsibilities in an inclusive and ethical manner, upholding the values of the VPS.

Key Accountabilities

  1. The Chairperson will invite all Forum members to submit items for discussion at Forum meetings so that the Chairperson can issue the proposed agenda at least two weeks prior to a meeting.
  2. The Chairperson of the SRFR will oversee and approve the recording of Forum Minutes and produce a Chairpersons Summary reporting the mutually agreed outcomes of each Forum meeting for posting on the Victorian Fisheries Authority website.
  3. The Chairperson will chair the quarterly meetings and distribute minutes to Forum members.
  4. The Chairperson will perform the work required as preparation for each meeting eg agendas, invitations, guest speakers, RSVPs, membership etc, and as follow up to each meeting eg minutes, chair’s summary etc
  5. Experience: The chairperson must have knowledge of and experience in recreational fishing
  6. Communication: The chairperson must possess good verbal communication skills with demonstrated facilitation and negotiation skills. The chairperson must also have excellent written communication skills with a proven ability to write concise meeting summaries.
  7. Stakeholders: The chairperson must have the ability to work with a range of stakeholders from a variety of demographics
  8. Expertise: The chairperson must have demonstrable experience in chairing forums/panels. Preference may be given to candidates with fisheries or natural resource management experience
  9. Administration: The chairperson must have ability and experience with word processing and email
  10. Social Media: The chairperson must have an understanding and awareness of the role and usage of social media.
