Introducing Chloe Molloy
We're delighted to announce that on Thursday 6 July, Chloe Molloy became a VFA ambassador!
Chloe is one of the AFL Womens rising stars, but in-between kicking goals and winning awards, she's also an enthusiastic angler who's keen to encourage more women and young people to get into fishing.
As a talented and driven young athlete who is already inspiring more women to take part in sport, we believe Chloe is the perfect person to increase diversity and participation in fishing. Going forward, Chloe will be working with us on our Women in Recreational Fishing Network and other VFA initiatives designed to get more people wetting a line.
To welcome her into her new role with us, we took her down to Sorrento to chase calamari and find out why she loves being out on the water.
Here, she shares her fishing story.
More about Chloe Molloy
After making the decision to stop playing basketball, which included turning down a US College Scholarship, Chloe has thrived in her pursuit of playing AFLW in 2018.
Starting the season playing for the Calder Cannons in the inaugural Womens TAC Cup Season, Chloe's form was exceptional which resulted in her being announced as the joint winner of the Best & Fairest Award with Bridie Kennedy, and winning the leading goal kicker award. Since the finish of the TAC
Cup season, Chloe continued to excel for Diamond Creek in the VFLW being one of the leading goal kickers in the competition. This was a terrific effort by the 19-year-old and no doubt a huge factor when Collingwood selected Chloe with their first pick in the AFLW Draft.
Drafted as a forward, Chloe was shifted back in her first season of AFLW to tremendous success. Nominated for the NAB Rising Star in her first game against Carlton, Chloe continued to shut down the oppositions attack and continually rebound off half back with her precise ball use. After a magnificent season Chloe was awarded with the AFLW and AFLPA Best First Year Player, was named in the All Australian Team, and also won Collingwood's Best & Fairest Award in what was a tremendous debut season.
Away from footy, Chloe is currently studying a Bachelor of Sports Media, whilst also working for AFL Victoria and a local café.
