Advice for recreational fishing in the Gippsland Lakes
Fish caught from within the Gippsland Lakes should be washed thoroughly, gutted and gilled prior to cooking or freezing. Do not eat whole fish, shellfish, crabs or bugs harvested from within the Gippsland Lakes.
Water quality in this area is variable. As a precaution it is also recommended that recreationally caught prawns are not consumed as their safety cannot be guaranteed.
If you see fish that are dead, dying or swimming erratically, do not touch or eat them.
