Come and join in on fishy fun at the Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre!

When: Saturday 6 July to Friday 12 July (closed for the first week of school holidays for annual tank maintenance)

Come and celebrate NAIDOC Week at the MFDC

Attend a traditional Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country on Wednesday 10 July at 11:00am, followed by indigenous themed activities in the Centre.

Visitor Information

Children must always be accompanied by an adult on activities and in the centre.

Daily activities at the MDFC

The Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre will be open to the public during the school holidays, and will host our regular activities.

See fish in their watery worlds, without getting wet!


Our fish are fed throughout the day. You might be lucky enough to see them feeding while you are visiting.

No booking is necessary for these events - just come along!

MFDC entry fee applies.

Inside booked activities

Ocean Art

Cost: $10 per person

Suitable for people 5 to 12 years, who must be accompanied by an adult

Unleash your creativity - with the help of renowned artist/illustrator Jennifer Beck.

Marine debris sculpture and beach comb

Cost: $10 per person

Materials supplied - participants are encouraged to enrol into the beach discovery beforehand to collect beach debris for use in this activity.

Fishy Tales - story time

Cost: Free for children and one supervising adult

Suitable for people 2 to 5 years

A morning of fishy tales and craft presented by the Queenscliff Library.

Booked events outside the MFDC

You must wear sturdy shoes that can get wet (no thongs, please), bring a hat, jacket and be SunSmart.

Children must bring an adult.

Hooked - Family fishing trip

Cost: $10 per person

Suitable for people 8 and over

Join us on a boat in Port Phillip Bay and learn about responsible fishing behaviours while having fun.

You must have a Victorian Recreational Fishing Licence unless you are exempt.
