Come and join in on fishy fun at the Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre!

Visitor Information

Children must always be accompanied by an adult on activities and in the centre.

Activities inside the MDFC

The Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre will be open to the public during the school holidays, and will host our regular activities.

See fish in their watery worlds, without getting wet!

Inside activities without bookings

Nibbles

Our fish are fed throughout the day. You might be lucky enough to see them feeding while you are visiting.

No booking is necessary for these events - just come along!

MFDC entry fee applies.

Low Sensory Space

The aquarium can be a confronting place for sensitive visitors. Our low sensory space (classroom) is a quiet area that is bright, has few people and no multimedia.

Please ask if the room is available.

Inside booked activities

Ocean Art

Junior (5 to 8 years old) $10 per person

Creatures Under the Sea - Printmaking (60 minutes)

Explore printmaking—mono-printing, collagraphs and relief printing to create prints of ocean animals.

Senior (9 - 12+ years old) $20 per person

Creatures above an under the water - Clay Sculptures (Part 1—90 minutes + Part 2—60 minutes)

Experiment with clay and learn hand building techniques to create a fish / bird sculpture inspired by the local environment.

Activities outside the MDFC

You must wear sturdy shoes that can get wet (no thongs, please), bring a hat, jacket and be SunSmart.

Children must bring an adult.

Fishcare, supported by the VFA, have organised FREE experiences that teach all family members how to fish responsibly while enjoying what recreational fishing has to offer.

Canoe explorers

Canoe over the seagrass meadows in Swan Bay to explore this amazing fish nursery.
